The Metamorphosis by Fraz Kafka | Review

It was the first novel written by Fraz Kafka a German speaking bohemian novelist. This novel is consisted of three chapters. The story starts with a mysterious incident in which the main protagonist named Gregor Samsa wake up and found that his body has been changed into an insect. Writer did not give any explanation about this transformation. First, he think that he was in a dream and tried to calm himself. But when he became fully aware that, in reality, he became a monster, he tried hard to hide this transformation from his family which is constantly calling him from the outside of this room. He was the only money earner of his family. Throughout the first chapter, he talked with himself give replies, by staying silent, to the calls coming from outside his room.

In the next chapter, his family became aware of this transformation. They felt really sad about it. Now they have no one to earn money. They felt economically insecure. So, his father started working a hob to nourish his family. His sister Greta too do the same. His mother Mrs Samsa also started doing his house work. Inshort, whole family stimulated by this event. For all this, Samsa felt really good.

In the last chapter, three men who were living in the room at rent with Gregor's family were invited to listen the song sung by Greta. When she was singing on violin, Gregor came out of his room slowly crawling to listen her sister's voice which he really like. Although three men were not impressed by Greta's voice, but when their eyes came on Gregor, they started making his fun. Mr and Mrs Samsa, who were Gregor's parents felt really uncomfortable about it and also shameful due to his son's physical appearance. Now, his family was also against him. They were tired of him even his sister how has been compassionate about him at the start also prayed for getting rid of him. Gregor suddenly died after that night. All the family felt little sad but they were also in mentally peace now. At the End, all the remaining family members started working their jobs who were dull and lazy at the start of the novel.

Reading this novel was a totally different experience fro other novels. One can think after reading Fraz Kafka's novel that it's possible to write in a different way. There is no clear story line, no specific rules, no plot, full of absurdities, and vague characters. It seems more like a picture of dream rather than reality. But at the same time, it depicts different aspects of society how one mean who is feeding the whole family when lost his value is counted by family. It shows that how one man, who is feeding the whole family when lost his value, is counted by family. It's a pessimistic approach in which a man is struggling for his survival and at last lost his life. Additionally, it gives sense to the robotic life and tough routine under industrial age. A must reading book for those who want to explore the hard but true realities of life.
